Sick Bag Examples

Entrance to sick bag heaven

Welcome to Sick Bag Examples, the showcase for examples of airline sick bags. Its purpose is to inform and amuse, as well as to facilitate bag exchanges between collectors.

While these bags were originally designed for people to be sick in on planes, they have become an iconic reflection of man's insecurity and escapism: A need to gather in, a penchant for statistics, and a specialism that marks us apart all add up to make a collector of airline sick bags.

Hope you enjoy your tour round the examples!

Royal Wedding 2011 & Baby 2013

Amongst all the pomp and ceremony marking the wedding of the millennium (so far), one creative artist has been hard at work churning out the must-have wedding souvenir of all time: the Royal Wedding Sick Bag.

Wedding red
Wedding blue

Created by Cumbria-based artist Lydia Leith, they come in a range of colours: red, blue. gold, purple and black. I've gone with the red-white-and-blue theme for the ones I acquired for my collection. Lydia has kindly signed them, adding to their cachet.

Press coverage was a mixture of intrigued, you-cannot-be-serious, and what-an-affront-to-the-monarchy-humpf-humpf. Lydia was, however, generally feted as someone who had lightened the mood and brought some quality, innovation and artistic insight to the otherwise mundane and tacky world of royal event memorabilia.

All I can say is thank you for bringing the noble pastime of sick bag collecting to the fore of the nation's consciousness! By way of context and contrast, I have added below some pictures of other royal bags.
